Old Ways Ya Gots to Go!

I am a broken person. And I know exactly where my cracks are and how deep they run. I don’t pretend to not be a broken person and therein lies the big difference. Because the truth is, we are all broken in places, but it is those who know exactly where and how they are broken, who also know exactly where and how they are whole! And we may not be whole in all places and in all ways, but we take whatever wholeness that we do have, and we make good of it. And we try hard to work on the broken parts, and we ask for help when we need it.”

As I rinsed the dishes and placed them into the dish washer something occurred to me. The way I was opening the dishwasher was all wrong! You see earlier this year some screws came loose and the dishwasher became unhinged. From that point on I could only pull out one rack at a time or the entire washer would lean forward out of its hole. Especially if you put dishes inside! It would always be too heavy.

Well, it hit me! My husband, just few weeks prior had screwed in the dishwasher, it no longer moved. Meaning it functioned properly. I could pull both racks out at the same time and not worry about holding up the dishwasher while simultaneously loading. The light bulb went on in my head! How many times am I functioning from a broken place when I am healed and whole. I have changed and grown a lot over the years. But there are times when you wouldn’t know it because I am comfortable with the broken way of thinking. It became my norm.

I have been restored and fixed. It is time to let it be know on the outside. I can roll both racks out at the same time!! And so can you. Allow yourself to see the areas in your life that are different; That are no longer broken. Had I not had the moment of realization , I would probably still be working extra hard to load the dish washer.

I had gotten so used to the dysfunctional way that it is weird and takes extreme focus to remember it is no longer broken. The same is true of you and I. We are comforted by the thoughts and beliefs that have helped us manage, maintain and survive. But now is the time for us to recognize the areas we are changed. It is time to operate from restored place. You no longer are broken. God has and is making sure of it! Just trust the process. Remain focused. Maybe write a sign on your mirror that says you are restored, not broken. This may actually be a good idea so that my kids and I remember the dishwasher is no longer, but also ourselves!

We need to stop working harder to maintain and do the work to fix the areas that need work. In the long run it all will run smoother.
