Bathroom Moments

The bathroom. The place where we go to release all the toxins and waste from our bodies. The area no one likes to clean, where we shower/bathe and where boys and men alike just can’t seem to aim. The bathroom only used to serve these purposes for me, until I became a mother. And especially since we began homeschooling.

Every time I step into the bathroom now, I am seeking a moment of peace and quiet. In these couple of minutes, I can close off from all responsibilities and focus on me! Even when I don’t have to be in there long, I usually extend my time before I open the door and go back to all my daily responsibilities.

While I may be seeking solice, the reality is when I close the door hoping for some quiet, the opposite usually happens. Unless I sneak away without anyone knowing. I mean, it seems that everyone in my family, including my husband wants to talk to me or ask a question the moment I step into my office a.k.a the bathroom. I have to fight off everyone before I can even sit down to pee or anything else!!

I have literally had to put my foot down and tell everyone to not talk to me if I am going to the bathroom! Now this may not seem all that important, but there is a lesson learned here for me. With all the duies and responsibilities I have day to day, it is easy to let others take up “my” time. The moments I need to recharge. The moments I need for a deep breath or to just shut off my brain. These times whether in the bathroom or some other place are crucial! Without them my brain is on overload and everyone else gets the worse pieces.

So fight everyday to consistently have your “bathroom” moments even if they are not in the bathroom. Advocate and speak up to your family when everyone is pulling at you too much. You will hear me say often, “We cannot serve from empty vessels”.

So fill yourself up today!

  1. Yes! I now leave the door open and light off when I go in there because they don’t seem to notice that way.
