Morning Power-Ups:Starting the Day off Right

One of the reasons we wanted to homeschool was because we felt a strong need to teach our children how to fully and completely walk in confidence and love of themselves and who God created them to be.

It takes time, consistency and a firm foundation to walk in confidence and self love in a world that even teaches our children they are not good enough. And as a mother of a black children they especially get messages that who they are is not enough. We wanted to have the time and the energy during our best hours of the day to give them these tools.

Every morning we eat together as a family, (my husband works from home so he joins us too) do a short devotional and prayer. This sets our day and spiritually grounds each of us.

But recently we have implemented a “powerup” session that has just energized and inspired us all in a way I didn’t know it would! After watching a social media video of a mom in the mirror with her daughter loudly proclaimingaffirmations  over themselves I knew we had to do this.

Everyone in our family comes up with their own “I am” I will” “Today is” “We are” statements for the rest of the family to repeat. Example: “I am POWERFUL” “We are STRONG” We say these with authority and force. We jump and class and build momentum for the day ahead!

Over the course of a few weeks of doing this I have seen my entire families attitude for the day change. I have seen my children’s imaginations and dreams spring forth. I mean, the words and affirmations that come out of my kids mouths only ages 8 and 5, 2 have astounded my husband and I. They have taught us and given us life!

I challenge every parent and even educators to take a few moments in the mornings to power-up with your kids. Not just for them, but for you as well. When we speak it, we begin to believe it and walk in it! So let’s speak life giving, affirming words;not negative. This will ultimately produce good fruit!

I see the “good fruit” of homeschooling everyday. It goes so far beyond academics. I love this lifelong learning. Next as a family we will be working on our school name and mission and vision. I will blog about that soon!

I encourage anyone on the fence about of homeschooling to give it a try. It may be the best thing for you and your family.

Until next time…
